Troubleshooting

These are some of the more common problems new growers can run into.

Not enough humidity. If your Lion’s Mane is turning yellow, or your Oyster mushrooms are cracking, a lack of adequate humidity is likely the culprit. Misting your humidity chamber more often can quickly turn this around. In some places that are dryer, consider using a monotub to maintain conditions. A great way to do this whether you’re using one of our Set & Forget Monotubs, or one you've made, is to line the bottom of the tub with around 1-2 inches of water soaked perlite. Place your block with the cut facing upwards into the tub, you may use a small rack inside if you want but this is not necessary. The perlite will maintain the humidity by water evaporating off of it and making the relative humidity consistently high. Monitor the growth, you may not even need to touch it until mushrooms are ready to harvest. It doesn’t hurt to mist the chamber around once a day.

Not enough fresh air is the problem if your mushrooms look as if they are stretching out away from the block, they may have long stems and small caps.  This happens from a buildup of co2 in their environment. Mushrooms breathe just like we do with oxygen in, and carbon dioxide out. Because of this, mushrooms need fresh air exchange. Co2 (carbon dioxide) is heavier than oxygen and will settle, therefore it's not passively removed. Using the humidity tent included in your kit, it will get plenty of fresh air every time the tent comes off to mist your block. Using a mono tub, open the lid and fan your block(s) lightly to displace the co2 from the environment.

Mushrooms aren’t growing. Although rare, if your kit does not produce mushrooms within 10 days, and environmental factors have been adequate (humidity, fresh air exchange) contact us HERE for a replacement. Also feel free to reach out for assistance HERE. We are happy to talk shop and provide information to growers. We value hearing about every customer's experience with our kits, which helps to continue to improve and provide a great product.
