FAQ

Q. When do I harvest?

     A. With Oyster varieties a good metric is that the cap has grown out but still has a slight lip around the edge. For Lion’s Mane, once “teeth” have developed or it looks furry, it's ready to harvest. Another indicator is at the base of the Lion’s Mane fruit body, it will have a soft sponge-like texture. Reishi mushroom, if left to top fruit in the bag will grow into lacquered-looking, finger-like mushroom fruits. Most mushrooms are best harvested before they release spores.  You can find example images HERE.

Q. What happens to my kit after I harvest?

     A. Once you have harvested your first flush you can continue spraying your block and within 10-14 days another flush will emerge. You can also experiment with making other cuts in your block and misting them as well.

Q. I harvested my mushrooms, what can I do with them?

    A. Mushrooms can be included in many dishes as long as they are cooked thoroughly. Alternatively, you can slice and dehydrate them for later use, or make them into a powder. If you don’t have a dehydrator, an oven on its lowest setting will do the trick. Evenly cut your mushrooms into slices, lay them out on a baking pan then let them dehydrate on the lowest setting until they are cracker dry.
